Fused Glass Frames

One of the assignments for the unit on Fused glass was to create a frame. Here are some of those results.

Coil Pots, project #2

The ceramics students explored coil as their second form of hand building. The challenge was to create a 10" tall coil pot that incorporated multiple coil designs and negative spaces, using rhythm and repeated patterns to create a pleasing unity to the finished piece.

Fish in Adobe Illustrator

The Computer Art and Design class spent quite a bit of time in Illustrator. One of their projects was to create a fish that used the gradient mesh tools to create an illusion of 3-d. Shape, colors and gradient placement was up to each individual student as long as they included all the fins and tail, gradient in the eye, and a background gradient simulating water (one student chose to create a cutting board as an alternative).  Happy fishing!

Glazed pinch pots

Here are the glazed versions of the pinch pots you saw below in their greenware state. There were varied results with these glazes as we are working our way through some older buckets of glaze that might not have been stirred up quite enough before application. Students learned quite a lot about application of glaze, relative "drippiness" and how some glazes flow more evenly than others.

Sandblasted Plates

Students were able to revisit their sandblasting skills with a clear plate as their surface. They created a design based on a Japanese theme of their choice, looking at sumi-e brush painting for inspiration. The design was sandblasted on the back of the plate so the plate can be used effectively for food as well as for display purposes.

Stained Glass Boxes

The 3D Art Glass class took those sandblasted 6x6 panels seen in an earlier post and used them as one side of a 3 or 4 sided box. The other sides were then designed to complement or extend their original designs or themes, and completed as additional 6x6 stained glass panels. They then put the box together, and the completed box can be used as a lantern with a tea light candle or as a container.  See what you think!
